Both Vijay and Prabhu Deva are trying to recreate the magic of ‘Pokkiri’ with their current film ‘Villu’. While ‘Pokkiri’ was the remake of a Telugu film starring Mahesh Babu, ‘Villu’ reportedly is inspired by the Hindi film ‘Soldier’ that starred Bobby Deol and Preity Zinta.
Vijay will be seen playing a double role in the film (a father and son). The son who is the protagonist of the story would go all out to clear his dad’s name from some malicious charges. While Nayantara would play the son’s arm candy, yesteryear heroine Ranjitha has been roped in to play the wife of Vijay (Daddy).
Going by Vijay’s films of late, ‘Villu’ will also have the exact proportions of action, songs, sentiments and larger-than-life heroism that is bound to win at the end.
The last time Vijay played a double role was for ‘Azhagiya Tamizh Magan’ which proved to be a damp squib at the box office. When ‘Azhagiya Tamizh Magan’ was released many reviewers felt that double roles are not meant for Vijay. Let’s see if Vijay can prove them wrong with ‘Villu’.
Ayngaran International’s prestige IlayathalapathyVijay’s Villu climax scenes are being shot in Tirunelveli and Tuticorin.
Director Prabhu Deva is shooting the scenes along with FEFSI Vijayan and some fight masters. It is going to be an awesome climax with over 250 people taking part in the shoot, which is going to be one of the highlights of the film.
Meanwhile as per sources Vijay is doing a dual role as father and son in this action packed family entertainer. Vijay’s heroine is Nayanthara, and the music is composed by Mani Sharma.
However Prakashraj, who is playing a crucial role in the film was missing from the shoot, creating great problems for the director and the rest of the unit. Prakash it seems was cut up with the producers, so he just bunked the shoot!
So for the last three days the unit was just waiting for him as the production manager and his men started a hunt for the elusive star. Finally they tracked down the sulking Prakash who reluctantly agreed to take part in the shoot from Friday (Nov 21).
Yesteryear heroine Ranjitha, introduced by director Bharathiraja in ‘Nadodi Thendral’, plays Vijay’s mother in ‘Villu’.
It may be recalled that yesteryear heroine Geetha played Vijay’s mother in ‘Sivakasi’ and Simran did the same for Surya in ‘Varanam Ayiram’.
Now it is Ranjitha’s turn to take up a senior role. The actress, who had been part of several films in the early 1990’s, ventured onto the small screen after her marriage. Now she is back to play Vijay’s mother in the silver screen.
‘Villu’ directed by Prabhudeva, features Vijay in dual roles and Nayanthara plays his ladylove.
Ilayathalapathy Vijay started his Unnavrutham (fast) to protest against the violence against Tamils in Sri Lanka today (Nov 16) morning in front of the Chepauk government guest house in Chennai.
From early morning, a huge contingent of Vijay fans converged at the venue in mini buses, autos, SUV’s and two wheelers with party blue and white flag flying high. The star came in his new silver Nissan X-5, at around 10am.
As he tried to get on the stage the huge crowd erupted and was overjoyed to see their hero. The police had a tough time in controlling the crowds. A young crazy fan rushed from the crowd and made it to the stage and kissed Vijay on the cheeks before he was pushed out by the star’s security men.
Vijay’s father S.A Chandrasekhar is the master of ceremonies. He had tough time controlling the crowds and at the same time seeing to it that the speakers did not say anything inflammatory.
When actor Mansoor Ali Khan said about Sri Lankan President Rajapakse and how he comes to India to get arms, SAC tactfully led him off the stage. As SAC remarked: “Please note this is not a Unnavrutham conducted by any political party, but a protest against the inhuman treatment of Tamils in Sri Lanka. We want the government to hear the voice of the youth, the lakhs of Vijay fans.”
Actor Vijay has announced that he would stage a fast on 16 Nov along with his fans in Chennai to protest the killing on innocent Tamils in Sri Lanka.
In a press release, Vijay said, “my fans have been indulging in several social welfare activities. They rendered a great help during the Kargil war, Gujarat earthquake and tsunami sufferings. Now to voice their support for ailing Tamils in Sri Lanka, they would come together to stage a fast on 16 November.”
‘Several thousand Tamils are suffering without food and shelter in the neighboring nation. So, we are going to hold a fast between 8 and 4 pm on 16 November to condemn the ill-fate deployed on our fellow tamils’.
In all district headquarters, the Vijay Fans Association’s office-bearers will preside over the fast. They have been beseeched to be dressed in black and exhibit their protest in the Gandhian way.
Shooting for the Vijay starrer ‘Villu’ is reportedly going on at a brisk pace. Directed by Prabhu Deva, the movie features Nayantara as the heroine.
The crew is currently in Tuticorin shooting some important sequences that include action scenes. Touted to be an action flick shot in a stylish manner by Prabhu Deva, the movie is produced in a grand manner by Ayngaran International and is expected for a release during Pongal.
Buzz is that the songs have been shot in a catchy manner by Prabhu Deva as he did in his earlier venture ‘Pokkiri’ with Vijay.
‘Vijay fans can expect a thorough entertainer loaded with action and other commercial elements, said Prabhu Deva recently.
‘Villu’ is Vijay’s 48th film and his next ‘Vettaikkaran’ is expected to go to the floors very soon.
After completing work on his 48th film ‘Villu’, Vijay will start the shoot of his 49th film ‘Vettaikaran’ some time in December for producer AVM Balasubramaniam.
Meanwhile, Vijay is planning to make his golden jubilee film for his home production under the guidance of his father S.A Chandrasekhar. The buzz is that the film will be directed by Malayalam director Siddique, who had earlier done Friends with him.
Siddique is a master story teller and is good at family entertainers. Siddique had earlier narrated the one line story to Vijay and his dad who immediately gave the green signal to the project.
Sources close to Siddique told media:- “The same subject will be tried out in Malayalam by the director first and then he will do the remake in Tamil making the necessary nativity changes.”
As of now Siddique will make it as Bodyguard in Malayalam with Dileep and likely Bhavana as heroine. The shoot of the film which will be produced by Johnny Sagariga will begin in March 2009, and will be Dileep’s July 4 release. Vijay’s 50th film is slated for Pongal 2010.
Is Ilayathalapathy Vijay having political dreams of floating his own political party? After superstar Rajinikanth’s interaction with his fans turned out to be a success, Vijay and his advisers are thinking about dabbling in politics by using his strong fan base.
At the fast organized by Nadigar Sangam in support of the Sri LankanTamils who are facing genocide, Vijay in his speech urged his fans to send telegrams to the Indian Prime Minister to intervene. According to sources in the telegraph department it was a huge success as nearly 50,000 telegrams were sent from Tamilnadu to the PM’s office.
Now to up the ante on the Sri Lankan issue the star and his fans are conducting a one-day fast and protest at the Chepauk Guest House in Government Estate in Chennai on November 16.
On Vijay’s birthday last June his fans launched the party flag. It seems like his father, producer and director S A Chandrasekhar, is grooming his son for the most important job in the state.
The whole of Kollywood protested the ongoing civil war in Sri Lanka and its effect on Sri Lankan Tamils. Now it is the turn of the fans! On November 16th, Vijay’s fans will assemble at Chepauk and fast until dusk as a mark of protest against the Lankan civil war. This was decided at a special meeting held recently; immediately a petition was submitted to Commissioner Sekar seeking permission to hold a protest, who sanctioned it after the fans promised him they will maintain law and order during the protest. Now, preparations are underway to hold a peaceful protest in Chepauk on November 16. This decision has been taken by Vijay’s fan club members and not by Vijay.
It may be recalled that during the Nadigar Sangam protest on November 1st, Vijay had requested his fans to send telegrams to the Prime Minister requesting him (PM) to stop the Lankan civil war. Then in the protest held by FEFSI, he thanked his fans for responding by sending thousands of telegrams per day and also requested them to send even more telegrams.
The entire film industry has been surprised at this move by Vijay’s fans.
Ayngaran International, Kollywood’s leading producers and distributors organized a preview of their Ajith’s Aegan, at Four Frames preview theatre on Friday evening, for two of the biggest stars in the industry.
The superstar Rajinikanth and Ilayathalapathy Vijay watched this exclusive screening with their families. It is after a long time Rajini and Vijay are watching a preview together.
Remember Ayngaran International are the producers of Rajinikanth’s Enthiren and Vijay’s Villu?
Meanwhile Gautham Vasudeva Menon, Ajith’s next director saw Aegan at the first public screening of the film at Sathyam Cinema’s on Saturday morning. Keeping him company was Silambarasan a big Ajith fan.
Nayantara preferred to see the film alone, Saturday night show in the box at Albert in Egmore. Nayantara always prefers to watch the film with the audiences and that too in a theatre catering to the masses.
