Vijay surprised by Dhoni

Vijay and Dhoni have found a fan in each other! Before Vijay was to meet the star cricketer, he thought, “I was feeling like - I am going to meet a big cricket captain - but he was so down-to-earth. He said, ‘Hey I know you, I’ve seen you on TV’, and he made me feel so very comfortable.” Dhoni responded by saying, “He’s a great guy, I’ve met him just once

during the launch function. It’ll be interesting to know him better and of course the film industry here too – that’ll be a relaxing time.”

The Chennai Superkings take on Mumbai Indians today. As IPL Chennai’s brand ambassador Vijay is confident of a spectacular turn out. “Definitely all my fans will come – they are all cricket lovers too so they’ll definitely come and cheer the team. Besides my support, the team will also have my fans’ support. “I saw the Mohali match. We’ve taken 250 runs which no other team’s got so far – ours is a strong team that can win under any circumstances – my mind’s totally in tomorrow’s match,” he said at a press conference yesterday.

With two stars, one from cinema and one from cricket, to cheer the team and lead the team, respectively, today’s match will be special treat for fans of Dhoni and Vijay.

Controversy over Kuruvi lyrics!

Tuesday 22 April 2008 @ 9:12 am

In less than a week of its release Kuruvi audio has managed to grab attention. If not for the songs, the lyrics have sure attracted uncalled for publicity. The Mozha Mozhannu song, sung by Kay Kay and Anuradha Sriram, is in the eye of the storm for it contains the name Thillaiaadi Valliamma in its lyrics. Although no derogatory references or remarks have been made, the mere mention of the freedom fighter’s name has drawn flak from certain sections of the society.

Valliammai, a South African Tamil woman, joined Mahatma Gandhi at the age of 16 and fought for the abolition of the Indian Poll Tax. Following the controversy, lyricist Pa. Vijay has offered unconditional apology for hurting people’s sentiments. Sources also state that the name will be removed from Mazha Mozhannu song.

Kuruvi song in trouble

Monday 21 April 2008 @ 12:57 pm

The audio release of Kuruvi, directed by Dharani and produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin, took place in Little Flower Convent, Chennai. Ghilli’s successful team, comprising Vijay, Trisha, Dharani and Vidyasagar, is coming together again in this romance-action entertainer.

Recently, a song from Kuruvi has stirred up a storm in a teacup. ‘Mozhamozhannu’ belted out by Kay Kay and Anuradha Sriram, is a typical folk song with a traditional folksy touch. The song is punchy and in Vijay’s signature style.

‘Thilaiyadi Valliyamayi’ is the line in the song ‘Mozhamozhannu’ that’s caught the moral police’s attention. Since ‘Thilaiyadi Valliyamayi’ is the name of a freedom fighter, an objection was raised. P. Vijay, the lyricist, has come forward to apologize for hurting any sentiments, saying that since they weren’t aware of the fact and the name rhymed with the tune of the song, it was incorporated in the song.

The makers have assured the public that the name ‘Thilaiyadi Valliyamayi’ would be removed henceforth.

Kuruvi Remake of ‘Transporter’?

Thursday 17 April 2008 @ 2:28 pm

Kuruvi Remake of ‘Transporter’?

The Vijay-Trisha starrer Kuruvi is supposedly inspired by the Hollywood blockbuster Transporter! The English flick is a pacey action-packed movie that has jason statham in the lead. Jason plays a man on a mission – where he needs to physically transport a person from one place to another, without anyone’s knowledge, of course. But Jason has a bunch of rules he never breaks, no matter what. Well, the script seems easy enough to adapt to Kollywood style by throwing in a couple of deadly stunts and love scenes, of course!

But then, this could just be one of those half-baked truths!!
